The Common Eland has a massive, ox-like appearance. Coat is a smooth fawn or tan, with or without narrow white, vertical body stripes. The Common Eland is not only the biggest but also the slowest antelope, with a top speed of about 25 mph. It is an accomplished high jumper, easily clearing 6.5 feet. This is one of the most nomadic antelopes with females having home ranges of up to 200 square miles. Females defend the young cooperatively, even advancing together against Lions.
